Condolence: All my associations with Wolfhart over the years at Harvard left me with a very firm sense of his decency, humility, Gemütlichkeit, and professionalism. I could also see that in his low-key way, he was also extremely witty; I will never forget his reading his magnificent limericks at the retirement dinner for Frank Moore Cross. RIP.

Condolence: My condolences for Professor Heinrichs to his family, his students, and all those like me who counted him even briefly as a colleague. He had plenty to teach, and his legacy in this respect lives on through his many lessons from which we benefited.

Condolence: My condolences to Alma Gisa and to all of the students of Professor Heinrichs. I was not his student at Harvard, but I was lucky to attend some of his lectures and benefit from his ideas and good humor. I developed a new appreciation for classical Arabic literature thanks to him. He was a true cosmopolitan intellectual, and a kind human being. Even though his intellectual and human legacy will continue through his many students, he will be greatly missed. Cemil Aydin

Condolence: My uncle from far, far away. I might say I hardly knew him, but I remember him being a kind and tremendously smart man with a great sense of humour. I always feel desperate facing the loss of another great mind, and this time it is even worse. May he rest in peace.

Condolence: Wolfhart was a scholars scholar, a friendly face, a good colleague. Seeing him always added a bit of happiness and tranquillity to my day at work; and the news of his passing is sending a widening ripple of sorrow through the Harvard community. Just yesterday I communicated the news to a friend who had taken his course on Arabic grammatical texts, the most challenging course he had ever taken. He held Wolfhart in tremendous esteem; and there were tears in our eyes as we shook our heads uncomprehendingly. May his enfranchised soul dwell in everlasting peace; and may God give his loved ones consolation. He was Wolfhart and the Heart of our Near East community.

Condolence: I am very sorry for your loss. One encouraging thought you might find comforting in this difficult time is found at John 5:28, 29. “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” God gives us the hope that he will soon resurrect our dead loved ones and we can see them again. Won’t that be wonderful! I hope that has comforted you as it has me.
