Condolence: I remember bringing Arlington High School students to visit Bob at the statehouse every year at the League of Women Voters' annual lobby day. Visiting with him was always the highlight of the students' round of legislator visits. Bob would not only spring for pizza and soda for the whole group, he would also talk hockey with the kids and lead a civics class of sorts. He was so easy-to-connect-with and knowledgeable, that everyone had a great time. And he was often a lead sponsor or co-sponsor of the bill supporting equality or justice or environmental concerns that we wanted passed. Your loss is also a great loss to the community.

Condolence: Dear Ned and the rest of the Havern family,
We are sincerely sorry for you loss. Your father was the first Massachusetts public official whom I got to know. He provided many helpful pointers about getting things done in the Legislature and was on the same side as us on most issues we were interested in.Most of all he was a warm, kind, human being who said hello and took an interest in you whenever you met.
Condolences,

Condolence: Bob's Family, Friends and Fellow Arlingtonians

Senator Robert Havern did so much for our community and he always did it quietly
(without fanfare or recognition).

Many years ago, I was President of two different groups that were advocating for Arlington's youth. At the time we recognized a real need to upgrade and make improvements on Peirce Field @ Arlington High School.
We felt that Arlington's youth was at a terrible disadvantage when you compared our facility to every other facility within fifty miles.
We did have some local support from our elected officials and they encouraged us to approach Senator Havern for possible State assistance.
At this point in time, we did have our share of nay-sayers and this was all being done on a wing and a prayer.
Bob answered our prayers.
Arlingtonians need to be aware that their State Senator found over Two Hundred Thousand Dollars that was used to purchase and erect the lights on Peirce Field.
His assistance gave our dream of upgrading this facility a huge kick start.
In the future, whenever I drive by the high school at night and see an adult soccer match, a Pop Warner Football game or High School sports(includes A.C.) being played under the lights......
I will fondly remember Bob Havern.
As part of you legacy, it is time to give you the credit that you are due and I want to offer a huge thank you on behalf of our youth.
Like everything else you did in life.....

Nicely Done!

Condolence From: Gabe Rotman
Condolence: Dear Ned and family, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. When I think of growing up in Arlington, your family is one of the very first thoughts that comes to mind. Bob Havern is Arlington and everything the town stands for. I can still see him in the corner of every rink we ever played in, watching and analyzing the game, always two to three steps ahead of the puck. A compliment after coming out of the locker room from Mr. Havern was the ultimate sign of respect. In addition to his smile and quick wit, my parents also greatly appreciated his political views and ability to get bills passed through the Massachusetts state legislature. From the whole Rotman family, my condolences are with you are your family.

Condolence: Maureen and Havern Family,

I cant get over the loss of Bob. I knew since 6th grade he was going to be a very special person. Our sports friendship continued to our senior year in high school. He was one of the greatest athletes that MA has ever produced. I was proud to share the success with him. He will always remain one of "our" guys.

Rest in Peace Bob, you had quite a life!
Respect and Admiration,
Mark Driscoll
