Condolences

Condolence From: LTC John Motley, USAR, RET
Condolence: Dear Maureen, Tara, and the whole Brennan Family, I had the distinct honor to serve with LTC Brennan in the last few years of his military career with the 10th Special Forces Group, Ft. Devens, MA from 1984-1986. I didn't realize it at the time as a brand new Second Lieutenant, but LTC Brennan made a lasting impression on me that served me well over the next 27 years of my career. He was a true Officer and Gentleman who treated me with respect (very unusual for a 2LT to get any respect) and I sincerely appreciated it. Throughout my career, I would often reference back to LTC Brennan when mentoring my junior officers and NCO's to encourage them to treat all their soldiers with respect, no matter their rank. I have fond memories of his retirement ceremony on the USS Constitution on Sept. 30, 1986 in Boston. Please accept my sincerest condolences on your loss and my apology for the late response, as I just learned of his passing today. De Oppresso Liber!

Condolence: Fran Brennan was a dear friend of mine for several decades. There are very few people who truly leave a footprint on our hearts and minds...and additionally serve as an icon of those true values in life regarding family, friends, country, community, and the future. Fran was in that tiny, pivotal and august group. He was an extraordinary hero of humble persona; an educator with the experience that complemented the textbook; and a template of excellence personally and professionally. There is a void in the world today over the loss of truly great person. I extend sorrow and prayers to his family along with the knowledge that so many others share your loss.

Condolence From: Mary O De La Rosa
Condolence: My sincere condolences to the Brennan Family. I thank God daily for having Lt. Brennan as the person who was a father figure in Vietnam 1965-66 to my husband Frank De La Rosa Jr. For over 40 years we heard the name Francis Brennan, and then finally at the 35th Infantry Regiment (Cacti Association) Reunion at Scottsdale Arizona where 5 original members of Recondo 25th Div met for the first time in 40 years. These men had served under Lt. Francis Brennan and they all said that they were alive because of the training and leadership from Lt. Brennan. The DeLaRosa family would not exist if Lt.Brennan had not taught Frank DeLaRosa Jr how to survive. We have 2 daughters 1 son (16 grandkids and almost 2 great-grandkids) and from the bottom of our hearts we say Thank You Col. Francis X. Brennan because of You Frank DeLaRosa Jr survived the war in VietNam when he was only 18 years old. May your everlasting contributions to so many persons be forever.

Condolence: I remember Francis from back when I was a young child, visiting Aunt Kate. He has a special place in his heart for my brother, being his Godfather. I remember his kind heart, his smile and his sense of humor. I think heaven is a little richer now that he has joined the ranks upstairs. Know you have wonderful stories and beautiful memories and he will live on in our hearts and memories. He had now be re-united with his parents and relatives. He will be a glorious guardian angel for you. I'm sure he and my dad are going have some stories to share. I am so honored and proud for his service to this country. Also, I know he adored his family, and he will be missed.

Condolence: Like a candle struggling to stay lit in the wind, lights dim here for a fallen soldier. Many lights dim for many fallen soldiers these days, but it’s especially sad when it’s so close to home. Close to home has a double meaning here as Fran was not only a brother in arms, but a neighbor across the street. We kidded each other about our Army careers, the condition of our lawns and other silly things. He spent his career jumping out of airplanes and then by molding minds in the classroom. Mine was similar except I didn’t jump from any airplanes. In his farewell address to the cadets at West Point, General McArthur said “Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.” Fran rejoins the ranks now. He is in great company and will be welcomed by those who went before him. All are at attention as the Colonel arrives to troop the line. “Hand salute”
