CREMENS, Doris M.,
Of the Gables of Winchester, formerly of Arlington, October 18, 2016, died at the age of 96, beloved wife of the late Charles H. Cremens. Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late George and Alice (Lawson) McMahon. She was a graduate of Boston’s Girls’ Latin School and Boston University. During WWII, Doris worked for the Somerville Recreation Commission as the Director of Federated Girls’ Clubs developing a strong sense of leadership and public service. She went on to work at MIT Labs after the war and then to raise her family. During her 54 years as an Arlington resident, she served its townspeople with dedication as an elected School Committee member and Chairperson (1965-1977), Town Meeting Member, and Redevelopment Board appointee. She provided a voice for the town and its citizens as a member of numerous town and state committees including the Chairperson and Executive Board Member of the Mass Assoc of School Committees. Her service to the Greater Boston Association for Retarded Citizens and the voice she provided to gain special education opportunities where there were none earned her their Community Service award and Outstanding Contribution award. Doris retired from the Arlington Housing Authority enjoying the family cape house in West Harwich. She was the devoted mother of Karen Retkevicz of Nashua, NH, Susan Busher of Winchester and Chuck Cremens of Chatham. She leaves 5 beloved grandsons and 3 great grandchildren. She leaves her loving sister, Hope Place of Lexington, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held in the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., Rt. 60 (adjacent to St. Agnes Church) ARLINGTON, Saturday from 9-11 AM. Followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Agnes Church, Medford St., Arlington at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Arlington Boys and Girls Club, 60 Pond Lane, Arlington, MA 02474.
