Obituary for Flora McKinney Martin

Flora McKinney Martin (née Morales) died peacefully on January 18, 2017 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA at the age
of 84.
Flora is survived by her son, Anthony McKinney and her daughter in law, Holly, of Boston, Massachusetts, her grandson,
John, of Boston, and her grandson, Robert, of Thousand Oaks, California. She is survived by her granddaughter, Kelly
Knutson and her husband Grant, of Alexandria, Virginia, and great granddaughters Amelia Claire and Isabel Grace.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lawson McKinney, of Oklahoma City as well as by her second husband,
Edward Martin, of Oklahoma City. She is preceded in death by her Father, Pedro, her mother, Florentina, brothers,
Gilberto, Jorge, Gastón, Pedro (Pello), Mario, Eduardo, of Santiago Chile and Omar of Quebec City and Arturo of Stockholm.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, Fresia, and Graciela, of Santiago and Irené of Rome. On Wednesday,
January 25, 2017 one week following her death, her sister Eliana passed away in Santiago.
Flora was born on October 1, 1932 in Santiago, to Pedro and Florentina. She graduated from University of Chile with a
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. After graduation from the University of Chile in Santiago she and eight other nurses
were selected by US hospitals. She was recruited by a hospital in Oklahoma City and relocated to the US in 1959. Without
extensive knowledge of English but with a willingness to work with endless courage, Flora started her life in the US.
In 1961 she gave birth to her only child, Anthony Alexander McKinney. She worked for many years at Baptist Hospital
until she retired as a Registered Nurse. In the 1990s she began working as a school nurse in the Oklahoma City School
System and retired in the 2000s.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 am on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 51 Medford Street, Arlington
Massachusetts with a reception to follow at the home of Anthony and Holly McKinney, 328 Newbury Street, Ste. 3,
Boston. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Flora’s life. Flowers and condolences may be sent to the Newbury
Street address.
