Obituary for Aileen T. Crowley (Bemis)

Aileen T. Crowley (Bemis)
Aileen Bemis Crowley, of Falmouth, mother of nine, grandmother of 16, and great grandmother of three, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017 of heart failure. She was 85.
Aileen was married for 46 years to the late J. Walter Crowley Jr. Together, they raised their family in Arlington. The death of their son Edmond at age 6 made their family bonds even stronger. Aileen and Walter shared a deep respect and love for one another and a profound sense of gratitude for all God had given them.
Aileen and her siblings were born and raised in Swampscott by their loving parents, Rose and Edmond Bemis. Aileen graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Lynn and from Emmanuel College in Boston. She was the de facto manager of her husband’s dental practice.
She and her family spent many summers in Falmouth which became her home. As her mother had, Aileen loved to spend hours in her garden, tending her peonies and dahlias. Reading and crossword puzzles were a daily habit throughout her life.
She shared her gifts of kindness, endless patience, and compassion with everyone she met.
In addition to her husband and son, Aileen was pre-deceased by her daughter Aileen Yates who died in February. She was also pre-deceased by her brothers, John and Donald, and many beloved sisters- and brothers-in-law.
She is survived by her children and their families, J. Walter Crowley III, Thomas Crowley, Eleanor Hickey, William Crowley, Rosemary Hallahan, Elizabeth Crowley, and Joseph Crowley; her brother, Edmond Bemis; her sisters, Mary Bemis, Katherine Clancy, and Rosemond Gorrie; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary’s High School, 35 Tremont St., Lynn MA 01902 or Sisters of St. Joseph of Boston, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton MA 02135.
