Obituary for David A. Howland

David A. Howland
David Alan Howland of Arlington, MA passed away on July 11, 2017. He leaves his children Cynthia (Cindy) Gallagher and her husband Rick of Arlington, his daughter Diana Howland of Chelmsford, and his beloved grandchildren Richard Brian Gallagher, Jr., Meredith Joan Gallagher, and John David Gallagher, all of Arlington.

They will forever feel the void of his presence. Dave spent countless hours orchestrating activities and being engaged with his children and grandchildren. A master tinkerer, Dave loved taking things apart to make them better. He loved the outdoors and would randomly take off on a miles-long walk or bike ride…at times needing to be rescued when he went too far and nightfall crept in. Adventures with his cars were legendary and will be a continued source of laughter by all that were close to him. He was very active, loved sports and made it his mission to attend all of his grandchildren’s myriad sporting events. Always looking on the bright side, he was a positive spirit, maintained a simple lifestyle, putting his family above everything in his life.

He is also survived by his three brothers, Frederick, Charles and Michael, his sisters Shirley Schicker and Beverly O’Brien and over 50 nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers William, Richard and Gene. Services will be at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, Arlington on Saturday, July 15. Visiting time will begin at 10:00 with a service immediately following at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mass. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, 3815 Washington Street, Suite 2, Boston, MA.
