Obituary for Agnes J. Hanlon (Cookson)

Hanlon, Agnes J. (Cookson), of Arlington, passed into Jesus’ loving arms surrounded by family on July 25, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Hubert M. Hanlon. Devoted mother of John Hanlon, his wife Jill of Derry, NH, Michael Hanlon, his wife Monica of Yorktown Heights, NY, Steven Hanlon, Debbie Buckley, her husband Tim, all of Arlington, David Hanlon and his wife Liz of Milford. Also survived by 13 loving grandchildren and 10 loving greatgrandchildren. Sister of William Cookson of FL, Joan Lightner of PA, the late James Cookson, Donnie Wong and George Cookson Jr. Further survived by her beloved family Pom-Chi, Priscilla.

Agnes lit up a room when she would enter. Her smile was contagious and she would laugh easy and often, creating an atmosphere of welcome. Everyone was always welcome at her Arlington home. She loved cooking amazing meals for her family, spending time with her husband, her children and grandchildren, and creating beautiful crafts and sewing projects. Everything she touched was made more beautiful by her creative hands and her thoughtful care. If you needed to shop for something, Agnes had a coupon waiting for you. One of her trademark traits was assembling beautiful gift bags for each family member’s birthday each year, which she always remembered. She absolutely loved attending BINGO nights with friends and family.

Agnes had the special ability to talk with anyone, anywhere, and make brand new friends wherever she went. Her warm personality allowed her to get along with everyone. As a long-time hairdresser, you never caught Agnes with a bad hair day. She was always put together, and always beautiful. The word “grudge” wasn’t in her vocabulary, and due to her gentle nature, it was often said that she wouldn’t hurt a fly. Agnes had faith in God, that He would provide whatever was best in every situation, and she trusted Him until the very end. She also gave the very best hugs, the kind that felt like you didn’t want to let go. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. The impact she has had on her family and on this world will be one of lasting influence.
