Anne Driscoll Hodgsdon, artist, animal lover, great friend and beloved by her nieces and nephews, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2022. She was 79 years old.
Anne was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala to Helen Araujo Hodgsdon and Willard Tisdel Hodgsdon. Anne’s love for Guatemala grew from her childhood years spent on the coffee and sugar plantations of her family and in the country’s highlands, where she developed a lifelong appreciation for the beautiful textiles of the mountain communities.
Anne graduated from Mills College in California, and was among the first women to attend and receive an MBA from Harvard Business School. Talented in early computer programming, she worked in that industry for a time in Boston until she decided to pursue her true passion for art.
Anne was an accomplished studio artist at Mudflat Studios in Cambridge, MA. She pursued her ceramic work with a quirky passion, exploring and interpreting the natural world onto her sculptural forms. Her repertoire included colorful birds and bugs and cats and dogs that captured her view of the world onto her clay surfaces. She taught adult handbuilding classes at Mudflat for many years and was a long-time staff member at Mudflat Gallery in Porter Square, Cambridge, where she also sold her work.
Anne is survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great niece. She also leaves behind many friends and colleagues. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her sister Kathleen “Sukie” and her brother Daniel. Anne’s singular sense of humor and unique outlook on life will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
