Below is the tribute Richard wrote. Their granddaughter Kelly read it for him and her extemporaneous comments are not here. The sound system in the church did not carry the words, so I am posting this on Richard’s behalf for all of us to savor:
We are here today to remember Arline and a few of the loves and joys of her life.

We will remember her smile, her happiness and generosity to us all. We will also remember the “look” she gave us when we did something she didn’t like.

Arline had a love of all things Egyptian. Wanting to visit Egypt, however we only managed the Museum of Science Ramesses exhibit and the British Museum’s Egyptian gallery.

Do you remember Arline’s cat Spunky Bunky? An attack cat for the ages. Arline loved Spunky having raised it from a new born kitten.

Arline enjoyed cooking and was an excellent cook. Her specialty, German Chocolate bars, requested by the family for every holiday. Arline also collected more cookbooks than anyone I know!

She enjoyed going to the movies, especially when there was a new James Bond movie.

Her favorite TV shows, were Supernatural and PBS Mysteries, closely followed by any cooking show.

Arline liked reading and collecting Conan the Barbarian comics, she even had a subscription!

With her friend Martha, Arline attended the Boston Globe Book and Author events where she received autographed editions from famous people. Tip O’Neil being one and a local of this neighborhood.

Her favorite drink Tab, later Diet Coke, favorite lunch, hot dog with mustard and chips.

Arline liked to spend time with friends, of which she has way too many to name.

Arline’s favorite places to visit were Bermuda, California, Minnesota, England, Paris and Rome. Later as her mobility decreased we would take a relaxing drive out of the Boston area, enjoying the open air.

During Arline’s working life she loved being manager of Big Fish, Little Fish, in Somerville.

Later at MIT she became an accomplished event planner for the Chemical Engineering Department. Arline was a favorite of students, staff and faculty, as advisor, candy supplier and “Mom”!

Arline’s main love in life was her son Christopher, her grand-daughters, Amanda and Kelly followed by the rest of family!

While enjoying her life she was battling type 1 diabetes, very rarely complaining, until the toll became to hard to bear.

Arline we sadly bid you farewell on your journey into the Land of the Angels.

We all Loved you dearly and we all will miss you. Your beauty and joy of life is an example to us all.

Arline was a very important person in the MIT Dept of Chemical Engineering. Many people at MIT, professors as much as the students, feel stressed. Arline was excellent at bringing a sense of calm or humor to the situation, even while efficiently dealing with the problem. She was a real gift.

I had an office next to Arline's for a few years at MIT. She was always kind to everyone and a pleasure to be around. Arline made MIT a very human place to be.
