Obituary for Barry H. Sweet

SWEET, Barry H., of Somerville, MA, formerly of Melbourne, Australia, and West Horsley, England, U.K., passed away unexpectedly at home on January 26th, 2020 at the age of 64. He is predeceased by his parents Olive (Lonsdale) Sweet and Robert Sweet of West Horsley, Sussex, England. He is survived by his wife Barbara Chitouras, who he married in 2007. He also leaves his sister Denise Sweet, of Cairns, Australia, and her partner Andrew Doolan, as well as cousins in the U.K. He was the caring brother-in-law of Theo (LeBlanc) Marston and Lee Marston, and doting uncle of Alexandra Marston. Barry attended Kingston College in England. While in the UK he worked at the BBC in London on such TV shows as "Doctor Who", "Poldark" and "Top of the Pops". He was a computer programmer at Loomis Sayles & Co. LP in Boston, where he worked for over 25 years. He was an avid and talented photographer and a passionate traveler, and he enjoyed combining these interests whenever possible. He traveled to North Africa, Thailand, Fiji, Hawaii, Mexico and the American Southwest, among other places, as well as to what was perhaps his favorite place - Greece. Barry was a keen problem-solver at work and at home. He was always cheerful, capable, patient and welcomed a challenge. He was fun-loving and enjoyed an adventure. His interests ranged from sci-fi to technology to tiki culture and gadgets of all kinds. Barry had an easy laugh, a quick wit, and a genuine smile. He is remembered by all as an authentically kind and gentle man. He was a much-beloved husband, devoted brother and adored uncle and will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
