It is with unfathomable sadness that we announce the passing of Christine A. (Fitts) Spring on March 2, 2022. She passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Stephen Spring, and two sons, Harley (22) and Brady (16)-affectionately known to her as “the boys”; her parents, Dick and Sharon Fitts; her brother, Doug Fitts, his wife, Liz and their son, Andrew (4); Di Deng, a Dartmouth exchange student who unexpectedly became a huge part of her family, and a legion of nieces, nephews, colleagues and friends.
Chris was a beautiful soul. She was thoughtful, fun-loving and kind-hearted. She was considerate of others and passionate about all her causes. She loved any and all adventures including travel, driving in “the outside car,” and golf. By far, though, her very favorite place was the beach where the sun was on her face, her toes in the sand and her dog by her side. She enjoyed cooking and baking, sometimes in the middle of the night. She loved flowers, especially tulips-they always brought a smile to her face. She was an avid fan of the theater, especially musicals, most recently attending Pretty Woman in January with lifelong friend, Leann. An advocate of animals, she enthusiastically volunteered for various rescue organizations, most recently Last Hope K9 Rescue. Unselfish to a fault, Chris insisted that the family get a dog from Last Hope so the boys would “have as much love as they possibly could.”
She brought joy to everyone with whom she came in contact; her beautiful smile and warm heart lit up the room. Her understated sense of humor was often unexpected, but always welcomed by all. She loved to hear the sound of her three boys laughing.
Following her undergraduate years at Ithaca College and graduate work at Sarah Lawrence University, Chris began a storied professional career spanning over twenty years, including positions at Massachusetts General Hospital and Dartmouth Medical School. She devoted much of her career and will be remembered most for her advocacy of behavioral and mental health programs. She would say, however, her greatest accomplishment and the one she was most proud of, is her family, “the boys.”
She wanted you to know: “I always felt rich with friends and loved ones; if wealth is measured by those around you, I am leaving the world on top. My hopes for my family and friends are to live every day like it’s your last. Cherish your family and friends. Never intentionally do something you need to apologize for. Always take the high road. Be happy; find humor and joy wherever possible.” May her legacy of cherishing her family and friends be sustained through all of us.
A small, private Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the Spring.
