Obituary for Christopher J. McCann

Christopher James McCann (Chris) of Somerville, Passed away on August 12, 2023, after a very long painful struggle with mental illness and substance use disorder. Chris was the very much loved son of Joyce and Donald McCann of Somerville and he is also survived by his brother Kevin McCann, his daughter, Emily Ramsden and his partner, Catelyn Ramsden, all of Somerville.

Chris was predeceased by his grandparents, Blanche and James Campbell, Alice and George McCann, all of Somerville. Chris was the much loved nephew of Joan Welch, Jean Delibero, Janet Campbell, Jay Campbell, John Campbell, George McCann, Isabel Raschella, Marilyn Canavan and the late Barbara McCann. He leaves behind a huge extended family and many caring people who supported him throughout his struggles.

Chris was a very energetic, fun loving, curious and creative child. He also thought he was a comedian. He enjoyed riding the waves at the beach, skiing, sledding, ice skating, sailing a sunfish and fishing on Spy Pond, going for bike rides and reading books. Chris was caring, loving, compassionate, generous, extremely polite and ready to go at the drop of a hat. He loved to go, anywhere at all, and was up for anything.

Later his struggles with his mental health stole his passion for many of the things he enjoyed in life. He still loved the ocean and going for a ride to anywhere, most of all Chris loved being with his family and spending time with his beautiful daughter, Emily.

We would like Chris to be remembered as the silly, funny, caring, thoughtful person that we knew was still there underneath the outward signs of his illness.

Our family is very grateful for the support of the selfless people from the Department of Mental Health, VinFen, hospital medical professionals and the Somerville Police Department.

In memory of our beloved son Chris, please consider donating to the National Alliance for the Mentally ill, VinFen, or any social service provider working to bettor the lives of our ill and forgotten fellow human beings.
