Obituary for Claire Barrett (Yoyos)

Claire (Yoyos) Barrett (formerly Gallo), of Arlington, MA formerly of Medford MA and Cambridge, MA died at the age of 93 on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

She was born on May 13, 1929 in Webster, MA and named Cleopatra, a name she legally changed later in life to Claire. She was the daughter of the late Samuel George Yoyos (previously Savas George Georgios) born in Turkey and the late Helena Agris born in Greece who both came to the United States in 1913 through Ellis Island and settled in Webster, MA.

She was also the loving wife of Harold Barrett now deceased, and formerly the wife of Vito John Gallo, also deceased.

Claire is survived by her two sons Samuel J. Gallo of Arlington, MA and James John Gallo of Troy, IL and their spouses Maureen Gallo and Marilyn Gallo. She was the loving grandmother to five grandchildren: James Gallo, Christopher Gallo, Daniel Gallo, Kerry Garrity and Courtney McCullough and all of their spouses. She also had eleven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. All called her “Gram”.

She is also survived by one sister Elaine Warner of Lake City, FL, and multiple nieces. She was predeceased by two sisters: Col. Catherine (Tina) Telford of CA and Bessie Walsh of NH.

Claire had a phenomenal work ethic and worked as a waitress until she was 80 years old. Her last position was with Brigham’s Ice Cream initially in the Boston location and then in their Arlington location. Before that she worked for many years at Robins Deli in Boston and prior to that The College Deli in Cambridge, a job she had for close to 25 years and was very good at.

Claire’s greatest achievement in life was raising and nurturing two fine sons completely on her own. She expected them to be responsible, hardworking, and always on time, if not early for things they had to do, virtues that were very important to her and that she herself practiced.

She was an important member of the family and was loved and will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Visiting Hours from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, ARLINGTON on Thursday, December 8th, from 3-6PM. A Prayer Service will take place in the funeral home at 4PM. Her burial will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Claire’s memory may be made to MSPCA-Angell, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02130.
