Obituary for George F. Kelly, Jr.

George F Kelly Jr., of Mashpee and Somerville, MA passed away unexpectedly on March 4th, 2020. Born in South Orange NJ on June 30, 1956, he was raised and attended Auburn MA Public Schools. George graduated from St. Johns High School in Shrewsbury, MA Class of 1974 and Nichols College in Dudley, MA Class of 1978.

George worked for his beloved, family owned Kelly Buick in Worcester MA from a very young age, performing all tasks from Lot Boy to Sales Manager in 1980.

George has 3 loving children, predeceased by Nicholas E. Kelly, George F. Kelly III of Revere, MA, and Jacqueline L. Armata of Everett, MA. Daughter-in-law Renee M. Kelly, Son-in-law, Peter P. Armata and grandson Cooper J. Kelly as well as a new grandchild due in April.

George was the son of the late George F. Kelly, Sr. and Alice J. Kelly of Auburn, MA and Popponesset Beach. George loved his four siblings, predeceased by his sister Junellen Lucas, her family of Oak Forest IL, Patricia Primeau and her family of North Attleboro, MA, Robert & Debra (Yoerger) and family of Downingtown, PA and Kimberly and Christopher Avis and family of Mashpee, MA.

He had an abundance of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. George spent many years with Gina Horan and her children and grandchildren in Sharon MA, who were tremendously supportive and loving toward him.

George spent every summer in Popponesset Beach which was very near and dear to him. It is here that he met lifelong friends and former wife Katie (Hanley) Thurston.

George worked for the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission and the Massachusetts State Housing & Finance Agency (MHFA) as a Financial Analyst and eventually a Regional Property Manager in the 1980s. He later went to work for Barkan Management in Chestnut Hill and ultimately McNeil and Associates in Westwood in the 1990s where he met many dear and loyal friends.

George will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. A private interment ceremony will take place on March 21st at the Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee, MA. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Flying Bridge in Falmouth at 11am. All are welcome to attend.
