Obituary for Gertrude Day

Gertrude “Trudy” Day passed away last Sunday, 4/11/21, at Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Waltham, where she had received loving care for many years. Trudy was born in Curling, Newfoundland, in 1928, a daughter of Violet Chevalier and Wilfred Charles Day.

Trudy immigrated to the US at the invitation of her beloved Aunt Julie. Trudy spoke with pride of becoming an American citizen and recalled in detail her citizenship ceremony. Trudy worked in multiple factories over the course of her adult life, at one point, constructing parts for planes. After the death of her Aunt, Trudy lived on her own in Newton, MA, where she enjoyed taking long walks, cooking for herself, talking with friends, and listening to her extensive record collection.
Trudy was predeceased by her parents, her brother, George Day, her step-brother, John Day, and her sister, Alice White (nee Day).

Trudy is survived by her brother, Charlie Day, as well as two devoted nieces, Debbie Sluce and Pat Joynt, whose visits, calls and packages from Canada enriched Trudy’s life as she aged.
