Obituary for Helen P. Martin (Prespolis)

Helen P. Martin, 99, of Wells, ME and Ft Myers, FL passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 after a valiant 2 month battle to recover from a stroke. Helen was born May 19, 1924 in Cambridge, Massachusetts to the late John Prespolis and Anna (Ragauskas) Prespolis both of Lithuania. She was raised and worked in Cambridge and Somerville, MA before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida in 1987.

Helen came from a large family and was predeceased by her 4 sisters - Anna Sarkisian, Antoinette Loprete, Stella DeCristofaro and Agatha Ganno and her 3 brothers - Charles Stevens, John V. Prespolis, Alphonse Prespolis. She had many nieces and nephews.

Helen met her first husband Robert J. Page while working in a munitions factory in Boston and got married in September 1943. They had 3 children together and was widowed at 47 in August 1971. She married for a second time at 77, 30 years later, in April 2001 to Michael J. Martin (87) who passed away in January 2004. They enjoyed living in retirement in Florida together.

Helen enjoyed her retirement years and lived on her own in Florida and spent summers in Maine with family. She enjoyed talking to neighbors who walked by while she sat on the porch in Maine or in the driveway in Florida. She was a great sports fan and enjoyed everything Boston sports related especially when they won. She loved watching golf and was amazed at how difficult it was to putt when she tried it.

Helen loved to play games like Mexican train, Cribbage and Bunco and never minded if there was a bet involved “just to make it interesting.” She was always available to go with you for a ride to the casino and loved playing bingo with her friends at senior center in Wells, ME.

Beloved mother of Donald Page and his wife Frances of Somerville, MA, Janice Bachelder of Gorham, ME and Anne Carta and her husband Michael of Ft Myers, FL and Wells, ME. She is the loving grandmother to Lisa (Page) Sinclair and her husband Phil, Julie Bachelder, Michael Carta and his wife Amy and Robert Bachelder. She is predeceased by her granddaughter Elizabeth Carta. Helen is also the cherished great-grandmother (GG) to Boden and Emerson Carta.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Agnes Church, 30 Medford Street, Arlington, on Friday, December 15th at 10am. Visiting Hours will be held in the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, ARLINGTON, on Thursday, December 14th from 4-7pm. Burial will follow in Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
