Obituary

Obituary for Helen Tsungheng Ying (Tsien)

Helen Ying, 94, passed away on January 16, 2020. Born in China, Helen immigrated to the U.S in the 1980s after retiring from the Bank of the Republic of China to live with her late son, Robin Ying. Helen dedicated retirement years to learning, teaching, and creating artwork, continuing her studies at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and the Parsons School of Design in New York City. She also taught Chinese painting at a local Chinese school cultural program as a volunteer, and was involved in the local board of education for the arts in Holmdel, NJ. For nearly a decade, Helen’s Chinese brush paintings were on display in art exhibits sponsored by the Bankers Association of Taiwan in Taipei. She was also featured on Monmouth Cable Vision in 1992 and 1994 for her Chinese watercoloring work. In 2017, Helen published a collection of her works titled Peace, Beauty, and Harmony with Nature: Introduction to Chinese Watercoloring. Following the passing of her son, Helen moved to Arlington, Massachusetts in 2019. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda; her granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Paul; and her grandson Jensen and his wife Anna. The family will have a private memorial service.
