Obituary for Joan M. Smith (Slocum)
Joan M. (Slocum) Smith, of Arlington, was called home on March 16, 2023, after a brief illness. Preceded in death by her husband Bernard J. Smith. Beloved mother of Susan Pinto, and her husband, Ralph Pinto of Watertown; Sandy Jones of Arlington and Lynda Tait of Rockland. Cherished Nana of Cate and Joseph Pinto, Devon and Ryan Jones, and Elizabeth and Cameron Tait. Sister of the late Richard Slocum, and former mother-in-law of Jason Jones. Further survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Brighton, Joan graduated from Presentation Academy, and was a former employee of New England Telephone and of the Arlington Advocate/Belmont Citizen Herald. She met and married the love of her life, Bernard “Beez” J. Smith in 1962 and became a devoted mother to her three daughters and later to six grandchildren, who completed her world. The family would like to thank the staff at Meadow Green Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Waltham.
Joan’s funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, at 11am, Monday, March 20th, 2023. Interment will be private.
