I was rushing back from NH to get to the wake but sadly missed it. Joanne was our neighbor. We often talked "over the fence" about issues related to education, our town, block, etc. I'm on the School Committee here and she was super supportive and knowledgeable about Arlington's schools. She was always positive, in spite of setbacks. And, she was fiercely independent. We kept offering to help, e.g., when she broke her arm, but she didn't accept help easily. She will be missed.

We knew Joanne through a group of BC friends. She was refined, so bright, and, most of all, genuinely caring. We shared good talks and good times over four decades. We'll miss her. She was a valiant soul. Our deep sympathy to her family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Joanne's family and friends. I was fortunate to co-lead a Think Tank with her a few years ago. She was an outstanding educator and person.

My sincerest condolences are with Professor Gurry’s family and friends. Professor Gurry was one of the most kind, genuine, and knowledgeable people I have ever met. She was an amazing educator and truly an inspiration to me as a graduate student at Merrimack College. I will be praying for her soul and the Gurry Family during this difficult time.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Professor Gurry. I had her during my graduate program at Merrimack College, and my time spent as her student was truly memorable. She’s helped to make me a better, more effective educator. She was incredibly kind, thoughtful, and extremely supportive of her students. Prior to graduate school, I almost walked away from pursuing my studies of education due to poor professors, but Professor Gurry completely changed my outlook and made the process of becoming an educator a worthwhile experience. I can only imagine what kind of successes she had in her classrooms prior to teaching at the college level and during her time as assistant superintendent. She’ll be greatly missed.
