Obituary for John S. "Spike" Lawless

John “Spike” S. Lawless. Of Cambridge, Medford, Laconia NH and Naples FL. February 14th, 2021. Son of the late Patrick and Catherine (McShea) Lawless. Beloved husband for 51 years of Eileen (Arey) Lawless. Devoted father of Kerry Evans and her husband Jon of Sudbury, Sean of Cambridge, Kevin of Somerville, Maria Ehrig and Lance Ehrig of Broomfield, CO and loving Foster-Dad to Lisa Cooper of Englewood, FL. Loving Papa to Tyler, Emily and Zachary Evans and Nathaniel, Avery and Ashlynn Ehrig. Brother of Joseph and his wife Katherine of Hull and Naples FL and William and his wife Karen of Medford MA. Further survived by his in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Firefighter Lawless was appointed May 27, 1973. He retired December 27, 2005. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps-Vietnam Conflict. Firefighter Lawless served as President of Cambridge Firefighters IAFF, Local 30 and as Sixth District Vice-President of the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts. He was also instrumental in the creation and development of Critical Incident Stress Peer Support teams throughout the commonwealth. Visiting Hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7PM in St. John's Church, 2254 Mass Ave., in North Cambridge. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, kindly enter through the Mass Ave. doors, pay their respects and exit the side doors to allow other guests to enter. A limited number of guests will be allowed in the church at one time. His Funeral Mass will be held at St. John's on Friday at 1pm. Burial is private.
