Obituary for Julianne Zuck
Julianne Zuck, 76, of Somerville MA, passed away in March 2020 from chronic health conditions.
Julianne was born in Brooklyn NY to Olga F. and Nicholas Zuck. The family moved to Summit NJ in 1955. Julianne went to the University of Rochester and graduated with a B.A. in the History of Ideas. She continued her education at Yale University, graduating with an M. Phil. in Sociology. She later studied at Boston University where she received an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Health Care Administration.
Julianne's career emphasis was on health care finance and administration. She started as a copywriter for John Wiley & Sons in NYC and was on staff to the New York City Council Against Poverty. After graduating from Yale, Julianne spent a year in Ghana working on a project co-sponsored by Yale Law School and the University of Ghana. She returned home amidst a government overthrow in Ghana in 1972.
Julianne was an Associate Area Director for the MA Department of Mental Health (1973-78) and then Executive Director of Alternative Home (1978-83). She proceeded to being the Executive Director of the MA Chapter of the National Head Injury foundation (1983-86) and completed her public work as a Consultant to the State-wide Head Injury Program, SHIP (1987). Julianne then worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield in various capacities until she retired in 2009.
Julianne's health issues were motivation to educate herself on alternative approaches to maintaining health. She was a passionate advocate of Functional Medicine and organic foods and for many years her family and friends received her best book find for Christmas. She loved animals and always had a place on her porch or in her house for a stray cat.
Julianne is survived by her sisters Diane Zuck, of MA, and Catherine (Michael) Cunningham of CO; the families of her cousins and their children; and many friends.
Julianne joins her parents in St. Vladimir's Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Jackson NJ.
