Obituary for Lorna Ann Peterson (King)

We are sad to announce the passing of Lorna Ann Peterson, (King) Age 74, of Medford, MA, on January 30, 2024, at the Medford Rehabilitation Center.

Lorna was born on November 6th, 1949, to the late Wilston and Marquise King of Cambridge MA. She graduated from Cambridge Rindge and Latin and went on to college at Norfolk State University in Virginia where she met Robert Peterson (Pete) her beloved husband.

Lorna passed away after a brief illness and leaves behind her loving husband Robert Peterson, whom she has loved for over 45 years. He was her lifelong companion; they travelled to many historic places in the United States and had many different dining experiences together. After Pete became ill and was unable to travel, Lorna became his primary care provider. Even with his limited mobility they remained ardent Foodies and continued dining at the finest restaurants. Additionally, they would take long scenic drives to these restaurants all over the New England area. They were never at a loss for conversation; they discussed current events and whatever sporting event that was in season, whether it be the football, basketball, or baseball. Pete will deeply miss Lorna as she was his soulmate and partner for life.

Lorna also leaves behind her dear sister Marla King and brother Charles King. Her nieces Shantel and Laketia King, and nephews Charles and JaJuan King, whom she cared for during their younger years as her own. She has always been immensely proud of the kids and was always keen to share their achievements. She leaves behind many grandnieces and nephews, many cousins, and close friends. She will be terribly missed by her family members and friends.

Lorna worked for the city of Cambridge for over 30 years as a web manager in the Human Services department. She is remembered by her coworkers as a steadfast friend who made it her duty to take care of everyone. Always reaching out when someone was in distress and keeping them stocked with chocolates, soaps, and lotions.

When Lorna was not working, she was taking care of family members and friends. Providing a ride, fixing computers, lending an ear when needed. She also volunteered for several years at Transition House in Cambridge that provides shelter and legal services for battered women, a foster grandparent program, and school-based teen dating violence intervention curricula and programs.

Lorna will be remembered for her kind heartedness and her great sense of humor. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Family and friends can honor and remember Lorna’s life by gathering for visiting hours from 1-3pm on Tuesday February 6th, 2024, in the Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Mass Ave, NORTH CAMBRIDGE.

Family and friends are also invited to a celebration of Lorna’s life at the senior center in Cambridge from 4-6pm.
