Obituary for Marion Rabbitt Towle

Marion Rabbitt Towle, age 86, died peacefully on January 17, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Marion was born September 29, 1937 in Cambridge, MA, where she was raised by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth, alongside her sister, Lorraine Sullivan of Andover, MA, and brother, Paul Rabbitt of North Andover, MA.

Marion graduated from Matignon High School in Cambridge, MA in 1955 and graduated from Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, MA in 1957. After college, Marion worked at several local companies including Boston Edison.

In 1962, Marion married Richard Cardinal Towle (d. 2002) of West Medford, MA, whom she met in high school. After moving several times for Richard's career at General Electric, in 1967 the couple settled in Durham, NH. Marion would remain in Durham until 2020, at which time she moved to Winchester, MA to be closer to her family.

After giving birth to their three daughters, Marion returned to the workforce in 1977 when she became the secretary at Mast Way Elementary School in Lee, NH. Marion retired from Mast Way in 2002.

As a couple, Marion and Richard enjoyed sailing and playing bridge. They were also active members of Saint Thomas More Church. Marion was a voracious reader who relished spending time with her friends in the Woodridge Road and Mast Way book clubs. She also loved knitting and crafting. In her retirement, she summered on Cape Cod with her family.

Marion, who was lovingly known as "Bunny" by many, is survived by her three daughters: Jeanne Cummings and her husband, Kevin, of West Medford, MA; Carolyn Nydegger and her husband, Kevin, of Falmouth, MA; and Alison Towle and her fiancé, Michael Moriarty, of Andover, MA. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Matthew and Erin Cummings, and Katherine and Connor Nydegger.

A memorial mass to remember and celebrate Marion’s life will be held at St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, MA 02155 on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.

Marion always had a special place in her heart for her niece, Julie Sullivan, with whom she shared a birthday. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The ARC Massachusetts (thearcofmass.org/giving), whose advocacy supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
