Obituary for Martha Alice O'Neil

O’Neil, Martha Alice (Hadley) of Arlington, and York, ME, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2022 with her loving family by her side.

Martha was born in Somerville and raised in Arlington, the daughter to the late Edmund Hadley and Charlotte (Pearson). Martha is predeceased by her husband Bernard F. O’Neil, Jr. and her son Christopher B. O’Neil. She is survived by her devoted son Jonathan O’Neil and his wife Michelle of Woburn, cherished daughter in law Molly O’Neil of Franklin, and was a loving Grammy to her grandchildren Conor, Charlotte, Jake and Max. Martha also had a special relationship with Lynne Sullivan, her daughters Jamie and Jordan Toomey, James Sullivan, and other relatives and many dear friends.

She was a graduate of New England College, class of 1965 and went on to teach in the Somerville Public Schools for many years and made great friends during her time. However, her primary focus in life was her family and everything she did revolved around them. Her favorite thing to do was attend sporting events for her grandkids and there weren’t many games that she missed. When she wasn’t spending time at games, Martha loved knitting and quilting and she met countless friends attending weekly clubs in both Massachusetts and Maine.

Of all the wonderful things that Martha enjoyed, her favorite place to be was York Beach. Martha grew up swimming at York Beach with her parents and carried on that tradition with Bernie, Christopher, and Jonathan. She has a lifetime of memories with her children, grandchildren, and her York Beach family.
