Marvin’s father was a Baptist minister and Marvin spent his formative years in Westerly, RI before moving to Cambridge, MA when his father became pastor at First Baptist Church in Cambridge. Marvin’s mother knew that he was a true musician and insisted that he practice the piano and organ regularly. After high school, Marvin attended the New England Conservatory of Music for a year. Following that he worked many different jobs, while playing the organ part time at First Baptist. It was at First Baptist that he met Frances (Lowe), his wife of 58 years. Frances arranged his first professional job as a musician -teaching piano to some children from the church. Later, a friend of Frances’ recommended Marvin for the position as organist at Our Lady of Pity Church in Cambridge (The French Church). Marvin felt that God didn’t care about denomination and served faithfully as choir director and organist at Our Lady of Pity for 39 years, and later at St. John the Evangelist and Immaculate Conception Churches in Cambridge and St. Ann Church in Somerville and also as musical director at Temple Beth Elohim in Wellesley, for 49 years.

proud member of the Mayflower Society.

In his free time, Marvin enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles, telling very bad jokes, and teasing his wife. He also loved to spend time at the family’s summer cottage in Northwood NH where he enjoyed fishing, taking walks and planning his next project. He was particularly proud of a stone wall he built to surround his butterfly garden.
