Obituary for Maureen F. Trainor

Maureen F. Trainor, of Belmont, passed away peacefully on December 24th, 2022. She is survived by her beloved husband Julian Harlowe, her children Emma Harlowe and Amy Harlowe, her son-in-law Ryan Brumit, and her grandson Clark Brumit.

Born in Pennsylvania, Maureen and her four siblings, Patricia, Joseph, Therese and Michael, were raised by their loving parents, Joseph and Marie.

Maureen completed her undergraduate studies in western Pennsylvania, Northern Ireland and Amherst, Massachusetts. It was her studies at UMass Amherst that brought Maureen and her husband to Massachusetts, where they settled down to raise a family of their own. In addition to her undergraduate degree, Maureen also completed her master’s degree at MIT and her PhD at Northeastern.

Maureen was a long-time employee of the MBTA, during which time she rode the T everyday to work. Since retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at many organizations such as: teaching English classes at the Belmont Public Library, recording audio books for the blind, tutoring for a variety of subjects, as well as working at the New England Aquarium, the Boston Public Schools, the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate, the Belmont Food Pantry, and the Belmont Media Center.

She loved watching sci-fi television shows, reading, writing, taking long walks, and traveling the world with her family. Some of our most cherished memories of Maureen are walking with her on the shores of Maine and Florida, exploring the museums of Norway, and riding the ferris wheel at Canobie Lake Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Belmont Food Pantry, the United Farm Workers, Oglala Lakota College, the American Jewish World Service, UNICEF or the Brevard Zoo.

A memorial service will be held in The Bigelow Chapel at Mount Auburn Cemetery, 580 Mt Auburn Street, Cambridge, MA on Monday, January 30th, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
