COVENEY, Paul F., of Watertown, formerly of Cambridge. Passed away surrounded by his loving family at his home in Watertown on November 5, 2019. Beloved husband of 58 years to Dorothy Coveney (Grimes) of Watertown. Loving father of Chip Coveney and his wife Kimberly of Hopkinton, and Denise Coveney Prior of Watertown. Proud ‘Papa’ of Brittany, Christopher, and Spencer Coveney, and Noah & Luke Prior. Dear brother of the late William J. and Robert L. Coveney. Late Korean Conflict Marine Corps Veteran.
Paul was a 1951 graduate of Matignon High School and excelled in Baseball, Hockey and Basketball eventually being inducted into the Matignon High School Hall of Fame. He loved to share with his Grandchildren his “claim to fame” of having been the only one he knew to have played at Fenway Park, Braves Field, The Boston Garden and The Boston Arena.
Paul moved on to “The Cross” and spent four wonderful years on Mount Saint James as an active member of The Holy Cross class of 1955. He earned Varsity Letters while at Holy Cross in both baseball and hockey. Paul went on to chair the class of 1955 for over 20 years after graduation. He was active in The Holy Cross Club of Boston and became a lifelong member of the Holy Cross President’s Council. Paul’s involvement with the college culminated in 1992 when he was awarded the prestigious In Hoc Signo Award. Winners of this award have distinguished themselves by their dedicated, outstanding and lengthy service to Holy Cross. Friend of Bill W’s.
Visiting Hours will be held from the Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Mass Ave, NORTH CAMBRIDGE on Friday from 4-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Rd., Waltham on Saturday at 11am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to go directly to the Church. Services will conclude with burial and Military Honors in Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge. Relatives and friends invited.
