Obituary for Philip J. Mouris

Philip James Mouris, 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2023, surrounded by his two daughters, Cheryl Layton and Jeanette Mouris. Phil was born on March 20th, 1949 in Brighton, MA to Francis and Catherine (Hart) Mouris of Arlington, MA. Phil was one of five Mouris children. His siblings are Francis and Michael Mouris, Catherine Lettiere, and Susan Daigle.

He worked at his father's Esso gas station and after graduating from Arlington High School he followed in his dad's footsteps by joining the Navy at an early age.

Phil worked on an aircraft carrier and experienced the horrors of the Vietnam War. He always loved our country and was proud to serve and protect it.

After the Navy Phil was a self-taught carpenter who loved to craft with his hands and it showed in his exceptional work. He married Joan Hobart, also from Arlington, MA and they had three children: Jeanette Mouris, Cheryl Layton (her husband Scott), and Steven William Mouris who passed away in 2022.

Phil is also survived by his five grandchildren: Natalia Cannuli, Kristelle, Rebecca, Wyatt, and Cooper Mouris, nieces : Victoria Hopcroft, Patricia Carter, Catherine MacDonald, nephews: Matthew, Mark, Isaac Daigle, Brian Walker, Brent Walker, Michael Mouris Jr., and his beloved grand dog Beans.

In his later years Phil served as Commander for the VFW in Arlington for many years. They could always count on Phil to be there whenever he was needed.

He was a humble, generous man who deeply loved family, faith, and country.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 3rd at Mt Pleasant Cemetery at 70 Medford St. Arlington, MA,
