Obituary for Robert E. Daley Sr.

Robert “Bob” Edward Daley passed away peacefully on April 5th 2021, at the age of 86 years old at The Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA. Bob was born in Cambridge, MA on September 4th 1934. He loved growing up in North Cambridge, where he first discovered his passion for baseball. He attended Rindge Tech High School, where he got his first taste of the sport playing in the high school’s baseball program. Following high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 10th Infantry Division while stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas and then Germany. After graduating from the Seventh Army NCO Academy in Germany, he finished his time and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant/Squad Leader in 1957. Following his time serving our country, Bob got married to his wife Beverly Occhialini and moved back to North Cambridge. Eventually moving to Arlington, MA where he raised his family. He continued to play baseball with the North Cambridge AAA baseball team, eventually being inducted into the Intercity League Hall of Fame in 2011. Every year he would celebrate his birthday with the infamous Labor Day party at his Gloucester home, where he could reunite with his old Cambridge pals who meant the world to him. Bob spent his retirement traveling around the world with his wife, Beverly, visiting all of the places they only dreamt of going. After deciding Aruba was one of their favorite destinations, they make it a yearly tradition that he always looked forward to. He also spent his summers at their home in Gloucester surrounded by family, playing his music on the front porch for the whole neighborhood to hear. Bob was not only a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he was truly an amazing person and will be greatly missed by all. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Occhialini Daley of 59 years, his son Robert Daley Jr., his daughter Kathleen Collins and husband John, older brother William Daley and wife Patricia, and younger brother Walter Daley(deceased) and wife Carol. He is lovingly survived by his grandson Robert Daley III, and his three granddaughters Michele Daley, Kaitlyn Collins, and Megan Collins.
