Passing away on January 7th 2021 in Lowell MA, Russell Meyers, son of Ivan Grant Meyers Sr and Martha Elizabeth nee Benedict was born July 27, 1921 on Berkshire Street, Syracuse NY. Russell’s siblings: Ivan Jr,, Matilda Jane, Robert Lewis, Rhoda and Priscilla predeceased him.

Russell served in the US Army during WW2 with the 438th AAA and he went across the Normandy beaches on June 10th. His service carried him across France, the Low Countries and Germany.

After discharge, Russell married Mary Ellen nee McCrohan of Couty Kerry, Ireland at Saint Paul’s Church in Cambridge MA on October 26th 1946. Mary passed away in March 1995 after 48 years of marriage.

Russell and Mary had four children: Kevin, Brian (deceased 2010), Mary Ellen and Martha plus many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Some years after Mary’s passing, Russell began a twenty year plus friendship with Kathleen Cooney. Kathleen’s children and grandchildren accepted Russell as a part of their family.

Russell was passionate about all thing Irish particularly Irish traditional songs. He was well known and beloved for his singing ability in Irish clubs and music sessions all across the Boston metropolitan area. He was a member and an officer in a number of Irish social clubs in the Boston area.
