Obituary for Saul Slapikoff

Saul Slapikoff of Cambridge, MA passed away on August 26, 2022 at 90 years old. Born in the Bronx on November 5th, 1931, Saul was raised in Brooklyn. He worked for the New York Railroad while attending college. He achieved a Ph.D. from Tufts University in Biochemistry followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Stanford University, before returning to Tufts as faculty for 30 years. He taught in the biology department and helped to found and later directed the American Studies Department. Saul was passionate about human rights, publishing a book Consider and Hear Me about his experiences working on the West Bank, and helping to found and edit the journal Radical Teacher – A Socialist, Feminist, Anti-Racist Journal on the Theory and Practice of Teaching. In his retirement Saul delved into his love of theater, becoming a playwright and friend to the Underground Railway Theater and then to Central Square Theater. He is preceded by his wife Evelyn Mann Slapikoff and sister Pearl Stevens and leaves behind Laura Slapikoff (daughter), Robert Slapikoff (son), daughter-in-law Gail Strait, and Flora Gonzalez (life partner).
