Walter P. Taranto age 95 of Arlington Massachusetts passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on December 22, 2022.

Beloved husband of over 56 years to the late Angela (Langone) Taranto and loving father of son Wayne Taranto and his wife Carolyn of Burlington, and son Brian Taranto and companion Susan of Arlington. Devoted grandfather of Alyssa and her boyfriend Jared, David and his wife Brittany, and Thomas and his girlfriend Lulu. Great grandfather of Zoe. Brother of the late James and Anthony Taranto. Walter treasured his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Walter was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on June 6, 1927. He was the son of Patsy Taranto and Mary (Caprigno) Taranto. He spent his childhood in Somerville and was a 1945 graduate of Somerville High School.
Immediately following graduation from Somerville High School in 1945, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a seaman, second class on the aircraft carrier USS Leyte.

Upon his honorable discharge from active duty in 1948, he enrolled at the Massachusetts College of Optometry where he completed his studies in 1952 and earned a Doctor of Optometry degree.

Walter practiced optometry in Arlington for more than 50 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Eulalia’s Church, an avid golfer and longtime member of the Lexington Golf Club.

Calling hours are Thursday December 29th, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Keefe Funeral Home 5 Chestnut St., Arlington MA. A funeral mass will be held at St. Eulalia’s Church 50 Ridge St, Winchester, MA on Friday December 30th at 11:00am followed by internment at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
