Obituary for Letteria C. Post

Letteria C. Post
Our beloved cousin, “Sis”, or “Lettie”, Letteria Catherine Post, died peacefully Dec 31st, at her Arlington, Massachusetts, home, after a gradually increasing decline. She was 86 years old. Born in Somerville, Letteria grew up in Winchester and was graduated from Winchester High School in 1945. She then attended secretarial school, working for a law firm before joining New England Tel & Tel and becoming an operator. Her facility for numbers was remarkable. She worked for the company about forty years, retiring from what is now Verizon. Always fun-loving and witty, Letteria made many friends there, known for enjoying good times with her co-workers. Single throughout her life, she lived with her aunt, Sadie Lenna Swenson, and Sadie’s son John, following the deaths of both of Letteria’s parents, Emily and Ellsworth Post, when she was barely twenty. She then became “Aunt Sis” or “Cousin Sis” to more than a dozen children of her two brothers and her cousin. During their growing-up years, Letteria, her brothers Ellsworth and John, and her cousin John Swenson were inseparable. All are now deceased: brother Ellsworth Post, innkeeper and restaurateur of Rhode Island in 2000; WWII air hero cousin John Swenson in 2002; and Northeastern Professor John Post of Boston in 2012. To John Swenson and his Newton family, Norma and Sarah, she was always just our “Sis”, with whom holidays and celebrations were shared. She lived in Arlington for more than half a century. Letteria Post’s wit, warmth and loving attention will be remembered and missed by all who knew her. She is survived by Rosalind Naomi, Claudia Ruth, and Elizabeth Marie; Edward Dexter, William, Donald Ellsworth, Stephen, Roberta Marie, Beverly, and Lorraine; and Sarah Lucille. Letteria will be interred at Mount Auburn Cemetery at a future date to be announced.
