The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Mark Kishlansky can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

A Clean Floor

I knew Mark as Kish.  We lived in Miles Standish Hall on the third floor at BU in the fall of 1966, our freshman year.  I was in a hellish roommate situation having been placed in a suite with four very cold upperclassmen.  As we became friends I approached the possibility of becoming his roommate for the second semester.  We discussed arrangements at a hamburger joint on Commonwealth Avenue known as Kemps of America. As we began our walk back to Kenmore Square he indicated that he had one unbreakable caveat.  While acknowledging that neither of us was a model for neatness and fastidiousness he nonetheless insisted that the floor of suite 310 be maintained with immaculate precision.  Without breaking stride he then produced what looked to be a shiny sliver cellophane-like ash tray he had scarfed from our recent dining venue as he flicked the ashes from his Newport cigarette into as a means of emphasizing his point.

Rest in peace, old friend.  You saved my college career.
