Obituary for Florence R. Tambone

Florence R. Tambone
TAMBONE, Florence, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her Arlington home on November 26. She was 71 years old and a proud breast cancer survivor.

Florence operated a boutique public relations agency with a national reputation for integrity—she would not represent a business or product that she did not personally believe in. Among her clients were The National Dog Show, Mohr & McPherson, Catania Hospitality Group, Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration, Cross Sound Ferry, Formaggio Kitchen, Lumiere restaurant, T.W. Food, and Vine Brook Tavern.

Her Rolodex was international. For many years, she moonlighted as a freelance travel writer for publications including the Boston Herald.

A native New Yorker who briefly pursued a career as a Broadway dancer in her youth, Florence was a passionate animal lover—particularly bull terriers. After Rocky Top’s Sundance Kid (aka Rufus) won Best of Show at the 2006 Westminster Dog Show, she helped promote his “retirement” career as a therapy dog and canine media celebrity.

Beloved by her friends for her indefatigable energy, positive attitude, and generous spirit, Florence was a lifelong friend of the late Marion Weinstein, one of the pioneers of the modern Wicca movement. When it came to Florence’s psychic talents (particularly her skill interpreting the tarot deck), Weinstein said, “She is the best among us.”

Florence loved dim sum, Mystic CT, Amtrak, Charlie Chan movies, racy gossip, her best friend Steve Kelley, Rockport MA, and New York sports teams.

A Memorial Visitation will be held from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut Street, Arlington MA, on Saturday December 17th from 1-2pm. A Prayer Service will immediately follow in the funeral home at 2pm.
