Obituary for Robert Gersten

Robert Gersten
Gersten, Robert

If Robert could talk he would say “spend time with your family, take a walk on the beach with your loved ones, and make a toast to enduring friendships”.

Growing up in Atlantic City, NJ Robert loved the ocean, surfing, fishing, and sailing. Later in life he grew a deep affinity for karate and skiing & snowboarding. Robert worked hard and long hours. He was always at some new horizon, or a new business venture or a new start. There was no retirement for him.

Robert had a deep appreciation for other cultures and traveled extensively; particularly Slovenia and Central European countries, China, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Hawaii. Wherever Robert traveled he studied and picked up their language and culture.

Robert always told you the truth, even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. Although he was a psychologist and social worker by training, his work was primarily in insurance. From his father, Robert carried on his love of real estate and his timeless words of wisdom: "winziker redn" or "Two wrongs don't make it right"

Robert was given the gift of life for a little while after his heart surgery in May. However, due to a catastrophic stroke which occurred at the same time, it was too much to bear and so he had to give it back.

Robert loved his family and was fiercely loyal. He had such a big, free roaming spirit, and a big warm heart. His absence will ache in the hearts of his two children, Benjamin and Emma Gersten and their mother, Anya Zibelnik.

His family arranged a burial service with prayers at Sharon Memorial Park early on Sunday, December 24, 2017. Afterwards a gathering will be held at 75 Norfolk Street, Cambridge.
