S.J.Tambiah was a towering figure in anthropology and also a role model for us during our undergraduate days at the University of Ceylon in late 60s and early 70s.His work inspired us as young graduates and lecturers subsequently.He employed a critical perspective to the subjects/topics under study making his work more appealing compared to conventional work.May he rest in peace!
