Jean Comaroff
Tambi was a giant in his field, a man of subtlety, wit, immense grace. He brought imagination and passion into the heart of the Anglophone anthropological establishment, and inspired generations of students -- above all, those of us from the Global South -- to have the courage to make the discipline our own. I and my students owe him an immense debt of gratitude, and offer our appreciation and sympathy to his family. It was truly a priviledge to have known him.
