The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Shirley P. Barrett can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Shirley's legacy

My mother had the highest standard of integrity of anyone I've ever known--she was scrupulously honest not only in what she said and did, but in how she lived. She truly lived her principles, faced difficult and painful problems head-on, stood up for the underdog, and tried her best to see all sides of every issue, no matter how unfashionable and contrary to her own opinion they might be. She was shaped but not soured by her father's Christmas-Day suicide when she was a child, her own and her son's MS, growing up in the Depression, World War II, and other negatives, and fully embraced the positives. So many people had a special relationship with her. She was intellectually brilliant, engaged in the arts and literature. Her volunteer work with literacy, Amnesty International, and other organizations made a real difference in many lives. She and my father left a lot to live up to.
