Obituary

Obituary for Margaret Louise Peterson

Margaret Youngdahl Peterson passed away on May 20 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the age of 95. Margaret was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the oldest child of Luther and Irene Youngdahl. Luther Youngdahl served as an Associate Justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court and then was elected to three terms as Minnesota’s Governor before becoming a federal judge in Washington, DC. Margaret met her husband, John E. Peterson, at the University of Minnesota, from which they both graduated. John then received an MBA at the University of Chicago and served as a hospital administrator in Berkeley, California, and Ridgewood, New Jersey before he passed away in 1981. After the death of her husband, Margaret moved to Bethesda, Maryland, where she lived for 35 years before moving to an assisted-living facility in Cambridge. Margaret devoted her life to raising three children, Todd, a law professor in Washington, DC, Jan, a business consultant in Cambridge until her death in 2005, and Catherine, an arts executive in Boston. After moving to Bethesda, Margaret worked for the American Association for Retired Persons and volunteered at the White House. In addition to her two surviving children, she also leaves four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Andrew Peterson and John-Erik and Greta Pszenny, with whom she spent many happy hours, and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chorus America.
