Obituary for Stephen L. Hoar

Stephen L.  Hoar
HOAR, Stephen L., of Arlington, passed away at home on Monday, July 11th, 2016. Devoted son of the late George and Mary (Wilson) Hoar. Beloved father of Katie Shea and her husband Matthew of West Roxbury, and Sean Hoar and his wife Alena of Waltham. Cherished ‘Papa’ of Gavin and Atalie. Loving brother of Janet Maguire and her husband James of Arlington. Dear uncle of Kristi Hurley and Jill Della Grotta. Also survived by many friends and former players. Stephen was the Assistant Athletic Director and Head Hockey Coach at Becker College in Worcester. Former Head Hockey Coach at Tufts University, Plattsburgh State University New York, and Assistant Hockey Coach at West Point. Late Captain of the Army Reserves.

Steve’s passion and love for the sport of college hockey and his dedication to his many players thoughout his career were second to none. Steve was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed attending and following the BC football and hockey programs. The joy of his life were his two children and he was thrilled when they each married and he became a recent grandfather of two. He will be greatly missed by his friends, hockey community, and family who were fortunate to have their lives touched by his love and friendship.


Funeral from the Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St., (Rt.60, adjacent to St. Agnes Church) ARLINGTON on Friday at 10:30am. Funeral Mass at Saint Agnes Church at 11:30am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8pm. Burial at MA National Cemetery in Bourne on Monday at 1:15pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Stephen’s memory to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay, 75 Federal Street, 8th floor, Boston, MA 02110.
