The friendliest mailman I ever had.

So sad to hear that John had passed. He was by brother Richards best friend at St. Mary's, he was my friend at the U.S.Navy 'boot camp' in So. Weymonth, MA. Yes, So. Weymouth, MA. Not exactly the toughest boot camp but we DID have fun there. John was the reason I joined the Navy in the first place. He needed a ride to South Weymouth so that he could sign up. I gave him a ride and on the way down there he said how nice it would be if I signed up so that we could got to boot camp together in the summer of '66. Boy were my parents upset when I told them I had just joined the Navy and it was John that talked me into it. Actually I was very glad that he did. John was also my mailman as we lived on Broadway in Cambridge. Why was John such a friendly mailman? Well, I worked nights and John knew that, so pretty much day he delivered our mail, we would ring our doorbell and I would buzz him in so he could come up to the third floor and deliver our mail, and have a beer OF COURSE. My brother Richard was in Vietnam so John liked to come in and chit-chat with me about how Richard was doing and about the Navy. Until one day, after a six pack was gone, I asked John if he could bring the beer the next time. He never rang the doorbell again. But we did stay friends! What memories! Great memories of a great person. Your boot camp buddy, Ray Landry, SMA class of 1966.
